Revlon Moon Candy - Galactic

I was pretty excited about the Revlon Moon Candy (such a fun name!) duos when they first came out, and immediately picked up "Galactic", a very dark navy paired with bright blue-green flakes. The packaging is really interesting: a slim glass cylinder which unscrews on each side to reveal a brush for each shade. It was rather unwieldy, though, and tended to tip over while painting. Despite that, I still like it... it's like a little magic wand.

This is two coats of the base colour all by itself; it's a very dark, mostly black looking navy blue.

The flakey glitter side of the polish is really something special- huge blue/green glitter shards. I really love how this looks layered over the deep navy shade. It's gorgeous, although the formula was an absolute pain. It was hard to get the flakes out (mainly because the base was very thick and gel-like), and you really have to dab them on otherwise they won't spread out nicely on the nail. Despite that, the end effect if quite stunning:

You'll also want to load up on topcoat in order to smooth those giant flakies out. They feel really jagged without topcoat, and you'll need at least 2-3 coats of Seche Vite to make it manageable. Even with all the hassle, I still say this manicure was worth it! I couldn't stop staring at my nails when I wore this.

What do you think of Revlon's "Moon Candy" collection? Did you pick any of the colours up?

  1. The blue flakies really stand out against the dark, dark navy! Very nice. I did not get these though I thought the packaging was weird. Plus, I have some of the base colors already... so I was thinking oh, I just get some flakies from Zoya or something... Your manicure is really pretty, love it! I've been impressed with Revlon's nail polishes in general.

    1. Me either! But they're super pigmented and bright. Honestly, I wish China Glaze Luxe and Lush had been more like this!

  5. I've seen the Moon Candy polishes, but never picked them up. I thought I wouldn't like the large flakes. I think it looks real great! I love the glow coming from the blue flakies!

  6. Those are some gorgeous flakies! It reminds me of Sinful Colors Green Ocean but more blue obviously. That also has a need for a few coats of top coat, those suckers can be sharp!

    1. Hahaha, I totally scratched myself by accident, and then decided to load up on a couple more layers of topcoat. After three good layers of Seche Vite it was pretty smooth. :D

  9. I got the purple one of this but found that the clear gel ate through my base coat! As in, I loaded the brush up and it smeared the dark purple away like nail polish remover. I decided to try and dab the flakes on lightly but you could still see it making streaks in the undercoat. :S not what I expected for the price. I wish my nails looked like yours!
