Today I've got three polishes from the Maybelline Color Show Fall collection to show to you! All required about two-three coats for opacity. Price-wise, these are pretty reasonable at $4 to $5 dollars, and some of the shades are fairly unique.
Left to Right: Auburn Ablaze, Metal Icon, Downtown Brown
First up I have Downtown Brown; I think this is the most unique of the bunch. It's a chocolate brown base with very strong blue-green shimmer running through it. I haven't seen anything quite like this, and it reminds me of MAC Blue-Brown pigment (or MAC Club eyeshadow, which I've heard others mention in regard to its similarity to this polish).
Whether indoors or outdoors, the teal shimmer is very apparent on the nail. No hidden shimmer here!
Metal Icon is a taupey-silver foil that is very much the kind of shade I typically gravitate towards. I quite like this one, although it had the sheerest formula out of these three- definitely a three-coater.
Auburn Ablaze is a cool brown shade that leans auburn. It has a red shimmer running through it, but it's quite subtle. I actually wish this leaned more red than brown, but in most lights it looks like a brown/mahogany shade. What you see here is two coats, but it could have used a third to eliminate the sheer patches.
What do you think these new Maybelline Color Show lacquers? Do any of these shades appeal to you?
these are all gorgeous! Downtown brown is my favorite!
ReplyDeleteI think I agree with you on that- it's certainly the most unique!
DeleteI love how Downtown Brown looks but I have an eyeshadow pigment that looks like it exactly... Maybe I'll mix it up and see what happens?
ReplyDeleteYou should try it! I've mixed MAC pigments into clear nail polish before, and it's worked out fantastically.
DeleteMetal icon looks like Orly's Nite Owl. I like the fire-y-ness of Auburn Ablaze!
ReplyDeleteI think Nite Owl is quite a big more beige than silver, though... at least from looking at my swatches of it here: http://lacquertracker.blogspot.ca/2012/02/orly-nite-owl.html And I do love that subtle red shimmer in Autumn Ablaze! :D
DeleteVery interesting colors.
ReplyDeleteThank you! :)
DeleteI like Metal Icon a lot! But I feel like I see everyone raving about Downtown Brown yet for some reason I can't seem to like it :/
ReplyDeleteI think part of it is just the unique factor- since they're isn't anything quite like it, it's automatically an interesting polish. I don't usually like brown shades, but this is alright because of that teal shimmer. :D
DeleteDowntown Brown looks interesting. Definitely different from any other brown I've seen before! But I can't say I quite like it...looks too frosty. I definitely prefer Autumn Ablaze! Love my reddish browns!!
ReplyDeleteHmm, maybe the shimmer is making it look that way? It's definitely not brush-strokey, though!
DeleteIk very into the autumn ' colours right now so I like auburn Ablaze the best bt I think downtown Brown is the most unique;)
ReplyDeleteX
I agree- Downtown Brown is definitely most unique; I wish Auburn Ablaze was a little more red-leaning, though!
DeleteI like Downtown Brown! It looks the most interesting out of the bunch to me! Looks really great on you too. Seems to warm up your skin tone :D
ReplyDeleteThanks! Looking at it again, I think this is a good brown for my skin tone. Often browns can be too flat or cool toned on me.
DeleteI bought Downtown Brown, but I still haven't gotten around to wearing it.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see your swatches of it! :)
DeleteOf the three, I really like Downtown Brown! It is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteI think that might be my favourite, too, if only because it's so unique!
