Quo by Orly Bubble Bath and Sailor's Blue

Tonight I've got two lacquers to share with you from Quo by Orly's spring collection: Bubble Bath and Sailor's Blue. FYI, these are the exact same as the Orly polishes Peaceful Opposition and High on Hope, except re-packaged into the Quo by Orly lacquers carried by Shopper's Drugmart in Canada.

This is three coats of Bubble Bath, a milky white with lots of silver glitter in different shapes and sizes. I'm a sucker for silver glitter in a milky base because it makes the glitter look like a cool reflective white glitter, and not so much straight-up silver. Neat look, although the formula was a little globby.

Sailor's Blue is a smokey navy blue with tonnes of purpley-red and gold shimmer. This one is really cool and the shimmer flashes a whole bunch of different colours. A little bit multichromatic!

What do you think of these polishes? Did you pick anything up from the Orly spring collection?

Quo by Orly Celestial Star / Sally Hansen HD Laser Comparison

I have a comparison post for you today, featuring two very similar colours (likely dupes). Quo by Orly Celestial Star (I'm pretty sure this is a re-packaging of one of the colours form the Orly Cosmic FX collection- Lunar Eclipse, I think?) and Sally Hansen HD Laser.

I picked up Sally Hansen HD Laser about two years ago, and really love it. The colour is phenomenal, a deep cobalt blue, very sparkly and reflective. More visible in the bottle, but still slightly visible on the nail is a purple duochrome. This colour has tonnes of depth. The catch? It's extremely sheer. You'd have to do at least four coats to see it at its ideal colour.

Enter Orly by Quo Celestial Star. Which, I must point out, is kind of a silly name. I mean, aren't stars celestial by definition? It's not like you have your celestial stars, and then your something-other-than-celestial stars. Anyways, moving on. Loving Sally Hansen Laser as much as I do (but hating the formula), I couldn't quite resist the temptation to pick up Quo by Orly Celestial Star. The Quo by Orly line is unique to Canada, and you can find it at Shopper's DrugMart.

Celestial Star and Laser look pretty much identical in the bottle:

And here they are at two coats of polish. Laser is on the index and ring fingers, Celestial Star on the middle and pinky.

You can see how sheer Laser is at two coats. In contact, Celestial Star is far more pigmented.

I absolutely love the super-shiny reflective sparkly finish this has. It's very attention grabbing, and even in low-lighting is just seems to glow. It's one of my very favourite polishes.

What do you think of Laser and Celestial Star? Given the chance would you spring for the Orly by Quo version? Or do you already own the equivalent Orly from the Cosmic FX collection?

All this talk of celestial bodies and cosmic phenomena has me thinking of one thing:

Quo by Orly - Night Sky

Quo by Orly is a line of nail lacquer that is produced by Orly and can be found in Canadian drugstores (Shoppers Drug Mart, specifically). When I was out the other day I couldn't resist picking one up to share with you all; this is Quo by Orly Night Sky.

Night Sky is a beautiful, slightly multichrome, purple shimmer in a smokey base. It's quite dark, but remains visibly a deep purple, although it does have a strong smokey cast to it. It has tons of depth and looks kind of... wet. It has a glittery wetness to it. And makes me think of beetles; dark and shiny. Yeah, that sounds a bit odd, but I'm trying to capture the depth it has. And while the gold multichrome is has in the bottle doesn't show up as much on the nail as in the bottle, you do still see it from time to time. Not always when you're looking for it, either. Sometimes it'll jump out at you in the most random lighting, and then disappear. Here are a few more pictures:

See how shiny it looks here? This is in artificial light. I'm kind of crazy about it.

I think this colour might be similar to one of the Orly Cosmic FX, but I don't have any of them to compare. Either way, this is an interesting lacquer, and I'm very happy with it.

Oh, and incidentally, this is the ring I was wearing today, and there is a story behind it that relates to Night Sky...

I bought this in Istanbul's Grand Bazaar from one of the (many, many, many!) jewelry vendors. I love bartering, and it was so amazingly glittery. I knew it was almost certainly some kind of plastic with glitter in it, but I had to ask the vendor what the "name" of the stone in the ring was. The response was that it was a "Night Sky Diamond". Hahahah. After that answer, who could resist? A NIGHT SKY DIAMOND! Doesn't it sound over the top?

So that's the story of Night Sky the polish, and Night Sky the ring. I'm further impressed that I just happened to wear it today when I was wearing my Night Sky polish. The parallel was lost on me until just a short while ago.

What do you think of Quo by Orly Night Sky? And what do you think of my Night Sky ring? Before I go, I'll leave you with a couple pictures from my visit to Istanbul:
