Jessica Smokey Feather / Revlon Carbonite Comparison

When Chanel's Illusions d’Ombres nail lacquer collection came out last year, it was extremely popular- especially the elusive multichromatic Peridot. Graphite, a very sparkly metallic dark grey was pretty sought after, too. A year later I have neither of those polishes, but I do have two similar colours: Jessica Smokey Feather and Revlon Carbonite.

Revlon Carbonite came out shortly after Chanel Graphite, and is one in an ever-expanding list of Revlon attempts at replicating popular Chanel nail colours. This particular attempt was not so successful; while it does look almost exactly like the graphite in a pencil, it falls short on depth and the gold sparkle that made the Chanel version so popular. It does make me think of this, though:

Now that the obvious Star Wars reference has been made, we can move onto Jessica Smokey Feather. While I don't have the original Chanel to compare it to, by all accounts this seems to be a much better dupe. It has tonnes of depth, and plenty of lovely gold sparkle. Here is a side by side comparison:

Jessica Smokey Feather is on the index and ring fingers, Revlon Carbonite is on middle and pinky.

Overall, I'm very happy with the Jessica version- it's a mere fraction of the price of Chanel Graphite, and is beautiful in its own right. It's very sparkly, and next to it the Revlon seems to fall flat. That said, Revlon clearly has the better name. ;)

What do you think of these lacquers? Do you have the original Chanel version, or did you end up tracking down one of these substitutes?

Oh, and just a reminder- my Claire's Candy Shop giveaway will end tomorrow night. If you haven't entered yet and are interested in doing so, check out this post to find out if you're eligible and how to enter. Thanks!

    1. It's really beautiful on the nail. So much pretty gold sparkle. Looking forward to hearing what you think of it once you try it!

    1. It's definitely nice to have alternatives to the (MUCH) more expensive Chanel lacquers. Have you ever felt persuaded enough to purchase a Chanel polish? Admittedly I have a few. Almost all of them were purchased at the Frankfurt airport. I absolutely HATE having long layovers in Frankfurt. Usually I'm stuck there for 6 hours, and I really find it to be a boring airport. And so busy. It's easy to convince yourself to pass the time by buying Chanel lacquer!

    2. Nope, I have a Dior as the most expensive, and all though I love the color, China Glaze still is the "my" polish. Being stuck long near duty free shops is SO demoralizing ;)

  4. I have Chanel Graphite... I REGRET NOTHING!!! In all seriousness though I'm happy I have it :P

    1. I totally get that- I bought Chanel Paradoxal, and have no regrets, despite the Revlon Perplex dupe. It has to be said: Chanel polishes just do kinda feel special.

    1. Thanks! Which one do you prefer? The Jessica brand, or the Revlon? Myself I like Jessica Smokey Feather the best.

  7. Absolutely no one sells Jessica around me. I was in California this past week though and apparently the brand is popular there. I was able to pick up Iridescent Eye (Chanel Peridot dupe). The brand is so lovely and applies like a dream.

    1. I've never actually seen Jessica in any stores where I am, either. I ordered these from Ninja Polish, so if you're looking to buy more, you might try them. Shipping is very reasonable, too. And I agree about application! They're perfect.
