Revlon Royal and Revlon Copper Penny

I finally picked up Revlon Royal after a year of waffling over it (on sale, no less!), and I'm so glad I did. This is a beautiful deep jelly blue, good in two coats. A little visible nail line is apparent here, but I found that didn't really bother me for a change.

I probably should have left well enough alone, but I decided to attempt a polka-dot manicure using Revlon Copper Penny. I don't have a dotting tool, so I improvised with a bobby pin. This was the result:

I like the colour combination, but my execution was a bit lacking. I couldn't get the dots to be uniform, so some ended up being quite globby and irregular. What do you think of my rarely witnessed attempt at nail art?

I'm pretty crazy about Revlon Royal- what do you think of it?

Kind of random, but for some odd reason Revlon Royal reminded me of this:

I have no idea what "Ube" jam is, but in my imagination I picture it to be roughly the same colour as Revlon Royal. FYI, I picked these "Stik-O" wafter stick snacks up at a Filipino grocery store on a whim, so if anyone can enlighten me as to what Ube jam actually is, please do (in this instance I choose to believe simply googling it would take all the fun out of wondering about it...).

Doesn't the Stik-O boy look super evil?! That's a creepy and menacing grin if I ever saw one, and I'm pretty sure that's what sold me on buying these things in the first place. They're not half bad actually!

So there you have it. Nail art, Ube jam, and menacing grins. Hope you enjoyed!

  1. He does look super evil LOL That is a pretty jelly blue, I wonder if you can do a sandwich with it, but it might be too dark...

    1. It might be too dark, I'm thinking, but it would be interesting to try!

By the way, Cee, did you receive your giveaway prize yet (Claire's Candy Shop)? I was just thinking to myself today that it must have arrived by now!

    3. No worries at all- I just wanted to make sure it hadn't gotten lost in the mail! Looking forward to seeing your post about it. :)

  2. Your dotting looks good! It does take practice though, like all nail art. And it's much easier if you have an actual dotting tool too.

And yeah...that dude on the cookie container looks weird O_O

    1. I think I might have to invest in a dotting tool, if I'm planning to do more of this in the future.

And LOL, yeah, the guy on the container looks totally weird.

  3. Ooooh a jelly dark blue! I need more jellies! So I like this...
As for your polka dots, practice makes perfect! Try using a little less nail polish on the bobby pin. I'd suggest investing in some dotting tools anyways, they're super cheap on ebay! But they took like 3 months to arrive...

    1. I feel the same way- it's hard to get enough good jellies, especially ones opaque enough to stand on their own. This one is a real winner! And I'll have to look into the dotting tools on ebay- I don't mind if they take awhile to arrive, as long as they're not expensive!

    2. They are ridiculously cheap! Like $1 for a set of 5 two-sided dotting tools! Here, I'll even link ya!

  4. I love that blue! I wear a lot of different colors, but always have a fav for blues and haven't tried this one yet. I do have blue on my toes right now, and might post it on my blog, but not this shade. Thanks for the post.

    1. This is a great take on a blue polish, especially with the jelly finish which gives it added depth. Fantastic formula, too. Glad you liked the post!

    1. Ohh, there are very few polishes, at least in my collection, that warrant a back-up bottle. So I know how much you must love Revlon Royal! I think it's pretty fantastic myself.

  6. Oooh Royal looks so pretty! I have heard that it is somewhat similar to RBL's IKB, which is awesome since IKB is sold out and was going for $20 a bottle! Thanks for the swatches! :D

    1. I heard the same thing, about it being similar to IKB! I have no way of comparing them, but it makes me happy to think they might be close. Either way, I'm quite happy with Revlon Royal.

  7. Such a pretty color! Also "ube" is also known as purple yam. It's pretty yummy, kinda sweet potato-ey but not exactly? I've only had ube in dessert form, like cakes or ube ice cream. Try it, you may like it :)

    1. Ohhh, purple yam! That sounds unexpectedly tasty. I'll definitely have to give it a try the next time I encounter a purple yam (that sounds almost whimsical... love it!).
