Today I have one of the new China Glaze glitters from the Prismatic collection to share with you. This collection hasn't been getting a lot of love, and I can't tell you I'm crazy about it either. In the bottle a pretty duochrome flash is visible, but it doesn't translate on the nail. Well, sometimes if you tilt your hand just so, in just the right light, you might might see something... but mostly, no.
This is two coats of Liquid Crystal, over two coats of Sally Hansen Celeb City (a silver foil):
The dominant colour in Liquid Crystal is a silvery-blue (with very elusive purple flash).
The texture was a bit...gloopy, but not awful. Just a little awkward to spread around evenly. It tended to glom up a bit towards the end of the nail.
Okay, maybe I'm being too hard on Liquid Crystal. It's certainly not bad- it's just always a little underwhelming when we think we're getting duochrome holographic awesome and it turns out being something less awe-inspiring.
But it IS a nice glitter. Lots of different colours happening (pink, green, orange, blue...), and under artificial light it's quite sparkly (see above)! Oddly enough it falls a bit flat in sunlight, and doesn't really "pop", but in the evening, I grow significantly more fond of it. It was the perfect adornment for my nails during last night's jazz club excursion (girl's night out). ;)
I think this would have taken at least three coats to be perfectly opaque, so I layered Liquid Crystal over a silver foil. This is two coats of Sally Hansen Celeb City, before the addition of the glitter-bomb.
I'm fond of the Sally Hansen "Xtreme Wear" line. Usually the polishes are pretty good, and a decent price. And I'm pretty sure this is the only silver foil I'll ever need...
What do you think of the China Glaze Prismatic collection? Have you bothered to pick up any of the colours?
I like Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear too!
ReplyDeleteYeah, there are a lot of really great ones- maybe I'll have to do a bunch of swatches sometime. My next post will include Lacey Lilac from the Xtreme Wear line, so it's a start!
DeleteI'm pleased, that I didn't buy any of them, and I was all OOOOHHHH until I saw the first swatches on blogs. Furthermore it seems like I'm growing out of my glitter phase LOL - can't do nail art on glitters, only use them as a supplement, and I'll keep doing that :)
ReplyDeleteHaha, yeah, when I saw the press release for them I was thinking "Wow, those are going to be AMAZING", but in the end... not so much. :P
DeleteI wasn't even aware of this collection! Although I think I might pass, they kinda remind me of the gem crush (or crushed gems, I can never remember) collection by sally hansen.
ReplyDeleteI saw the Gem Crush (or maybe Crushed Gems? lol) collection the other day, and a lot of them looked like dupes to China Glaze Eye Candy. Either way, those collections would both probably be a better choice than Prismatic. I hate when things look awesome in the bottle, but not so much on the nail. :P
DeleteI was all about the Eye Candy collection and then I saw the Sally Hansen collection and felt sort of underwhelmed? Which turned out to be fine bc I broke down and purchased some of the Hunger Games collection.
DeleteI was looking at swatches of the Prismatic collection and all of the colors looked way too much alike for my taste. :(
I ended up picking up a bunch of the Eye Candy lacquers for $2 a piece during a local salon sale. So far the only one I've tried is Marry a Millionaire which I think is pretty awesome (bar glitter, wooo!).
DeleteWhat Hunger Games polishes did you pick up? I'm dying to get my hands on a few of them (Riveting, Smoke and Ashes, Luxe and Lush, Harvest Moon...).
By some, I meant half the collection, hahahaha. I went with: Fast Track, Lush and Luxe, Stone Cold, Agro, Harvest Moon, and Electrify. Riveting was sold out and the cremes didn't really get my attention.
DeleteCan't wait to see swatches! ;) I'm so on the fence about Fast Track- every time I see swatches of it I change my mind.
