Maybelline Cocktail Dress

Tonight I've got a quick post to share with you- this is Maybelline Cocktail Dress, a fine black glitter with bigger red hexagonal glitter mixed in. The formula was just okay- I think this took three coats to achieve opacity.

It actually reminds me a little bit of one of the OPI Mariah Carey Liquid Sands, "Stay The Night". The red glitter in the OPI is smaller and more of a magenta-pink, and of course the OPI also has the textured element to it, but they are somewhat similar in overall effect.

What do you think of Maybelline's Cocktail Dress? Does the name annoy anyone else? It makes me think that this is a lacquer with an identity crisis: "I'm not a nail varnish... I'm a dress! A REAL dress!" Alrighty, then, little delusional polish. It's kinda cute when you think of it that way, I suppose.

  1. I thought of that OPI too, when I saw it.
    Poor little delusional polish ;)

  2. I bought this polish also thinking it was similar to the OPI which I couldn't find anywhere. Obviously very different in finish but I do still like this one. Not enough to have skipped Stay the Night, though. Oops.

    1. I have to admit, I do prefer the OPI as well. But, with the way this textured trend is taking off, I wouldn't be surprised if a dupe to the OPI comes out sometime sooner or later! That way you might still have a chance to snag it. :)

  3. Lol delusional polish! That's really cute way of thinking of it in my opinion haha. I'm not too crazy about it though, black polishes with glitter are just so underwhelming to me most of the time!

    1. I kind of agree- I remember picking up one of the Hits fine glitters in black, and being super underwhelmed. I always think they should be more sparkly or attention-grabbing, but in the end they fall flat. Now, black glitters in a coloured base, that's a different story.

  4. The OPI polish was the first thing that came to mind the minute I saw that too :P

    1. I guess if you're not feeling the texture trend, maybe this would be the appropriate substitute for a similar colour combo? :D
