Hare Polish - Midsummer's Midnight

Tonight I've got a gorgeous lacquer from Hare Polish to share with you; this is Midsummer's Midnight, and it's a black jelly polish with lots of purple, green, and blue glitters swimming in it. I especially love the blue squares in this- they're not as numerous as the purple and green glitters, and it adds so much depth. If I recall correctly, this was opaque in two thick coats.

This was also my first experiences using white glue as a base for a glitter polish; if you haven't heard about this method of glitter removal, read all about it here. I just emptied some white glue into an empty polish bottle, and applied it as a base coat (allowing it to dry completely) before applying my polish. Unfortunately, removal wasn't as slick for me as I'd hoped. It seems to work great for other people, but in my case I really struggled to get the polish off and I think it stripped some of the surface of my nail off with it (I really should have just given up and broken out the remover, but I was stubborn enough to want to finish what I'd started). Oh well, back to the tin foil method for me!

Have you tried using white glue as a method for making glitter polish removal easier? What were your experiences?

  1. That's a really pretty color!

I haven't tried the glue yet because I'm worried about ripping some of my nail off.

    1. If you try it and think it's not quite working, just use remover instead of persevering, lol!

    1. Oh, I wish I could find that where I am! I wonder if it would work any better than plain white glue...

I haven't tried any glues (yet)...

  4. I've been using Elmer's Wood Glue for the past couple of months; after I thinned it with a tiny bit of water, it worked great. Perhaps you didn't use a thick enough coat of glue... or your glue is too thin? I've never had any issues with taking off bits of my nail with the glue or anything :-/

    1. Hmm, I think I'll have to attempt this again soon. Maybe you're right- maybe it was too thin of a coat. I'll have to try it again, and I'll post here if I fare any better!

  5. Hmm I've never tried the PVA glue base coat, since I don't wear chunky glitters too often anyways and am perfectly happy with the foil method. I thought you are suppose to thin the glue with some water before using? Maybe that'll make it a little easier to remove?

    1. Perhaps that's what I'm doing wrong- I'll try thinning it with water before using it again! Thanks, Sandi!

    1. Lol, I can see how it's a tempting means of removal if you like to pick at things! Kind of satisfying, right?

  7. Nope I have never tried it. While I know you said it was hard to get off did it at least wear well?

    1. It did wear well! Certainly no worse than my regular base coat. I was worried it wouldn't wear well at all, but I can't say I noticed a big difference.

  8. I've been doing the glue base coat for awhile, but I haven't thinned mine out. I feel like it goes on unevenly, but it's worth it for the chunky glitters.

    1. Do you ever have any troubles with removal? I'm beginning to suspect any problems I'm having are due to my own body chemistry, rather than the glue base needing to be thinned out.
