Sally Hansen Salon Effects - Laced Up

This past weekend was really busy for me, and I wanted to choose a manicure that would have some staying power. For me, that's a cue to do a manicure with Sally Hansen's Salon Effects Nail Strips. I usually can't get past two days without major chipping when I paint my nails (no matter what products or technique I use when doing them). I love that I can get up to about 4 days with a manicure using Nail Strips.

I have to admit, I was hesitant to try these the first time, but the application wasn't really that hard to get the hang of, and some of the designs are really amazing- not something I could ever create just with stamping/nail art.

This is Sally Hansen Salon Effects in Laced Up:

Pretty cool, right? Just make sure to follow the package instructions, and application should be fine. One helpful tip is to make sure to just gently stretch the nail strip over then tip of your nail when applying; too much stretching will distort the image, and too little might mean the strips won't be totally smooth and flat. I also like to finish the manicure with topcoat, just to seal it and give it some extra shine.

Here's a look at a manicure I did for last Halloween using nail strips (sorry for the poor photo quality- this was way before I even contemplated a nail blog):

This was a seasonal release for Halloween 2011, and I almost wish I'd picked up two. Yes, those are interlocking white and orange ghosts. How freaking cute is that?! I think the design was called "Ghoulie Girl". Here's hoping they bring it back for Halloween 2012!

What do you think of Sally Hansen Salon Effects Nail Polish Strips? Have you tried them, or something similar?

  1. I haven't tried them but I do want to. I love how laced up looks. It's pretty :) I would for sure try that one.

    1. I'd recommend at least trying these once. I was pleasantly surprised at how well they applied and lasted. I was expecting something more like a sticker that would peel and end up being annoying to wear, but these adhere really well!

  2. I've never tried the strips, but a couple weeks ago I got gold ones and silver ones from CVS, some other brand I don't remember. They were worth buying imo because it's so hard to find a streak-free chrome gold and silver nail polish. But that lace design looks freaking awesome!

    1. Ohh, if you remember the brand, please let me know. I'd love to try some really good gold chrome. I keep dreaming of something like shiny gold Minx nails, which is never really possible to get with nail polish.

    2. I'm sure I will mention it on my blog when I get around to using it, but I just checked the packaging for ya and it's called Nail Rock! I remember Revlon had these amazing chrome nail polishes like a million years ago...I only bothered to get a silver though, but I still have it and the formula is still good after all these years!

    3. I don't think we have Nail Rock here... I've never heard of it, but I'll definitely keep an eye out! And oh my gosh, I had a tonne of the Sally Hansen Chrome lacquers from way back in the day and loved the heck out of them. I can't believe I eventually got rid of them! So regret that. It was way before I was really into polish, and I thought that they must be "too old". :( Now I know better!

    4. Yea I got mine waaay before I was into nail polish too! And I was cleaning out my room and I was thrilled to find it still in good condition. I thought I threw it out a long time ago! I've never seen that brand before either, until I found it at CVS.

  3. I also never tried.
I imagine it will feel more "closed/dense" on the nail, or do you feel it like it was polish?
Do you have to do a lot of soaking to get them off?
They do look very nice, I have to admit that LOL

    1. It was a little more "dense" feeling than regular nail polish, but not at all like I thought it would feel. Not like it was a sticker or anything. It still felt sort of like polish, just a bit... denser. I'm trying to think of another way to describe these, but I can't! Anyways, I was pleasantly surprised with how they felt on the name.

As for removal, they were a bit tougher to remove than regular nail polish, but not as bad as glitter. I didn't bother soaking them off, or anything like that.

If you end up trying these I'd love to hear your thoughts!

  4. I've tried these and I thought they worked very well. I just love polish too much to buy any more strips!

    1. I did find that these were a little too expensive to justify for only one manicure. I keep them for special occasions for that reason. I wish they were about half the price, then I would definitely be buying more of them!
