Essie Forever Yummy and Essie Ballet Slippers

Today I have Essie Forever Yummy to share with you; Forever Yummy, despite having a name that annoys me, just might be my ideal red polish. It's not too cool or too warm toned, and never leans too much towards a tomato-red nor towards a pink or blue red. It's very vibrant, but isn't over the top. It has a great formula, and this was two easy coats:

I don't often wear red lacquer, but I'm really happy with how this looks. I also feel more comfortable wearing it when my nails are on the shorter side- I just think red polish looks better on shorter nails. What do you think?

Incidentally, I received this polish free with a subscription to Chatelaine magazine... I have to admit, the free lacquer reeled me in on this one- they obviously knew how to get my attention. That and the lure of tasty recipes, of course.

I also have a cameo appearance of my mom wearing Essie Ballet Slippers. Ballet Slippers is a sheer streaky mess milky nude. Honestly, though, the formula on this one was terrible. Extremely streaky and hard to get even. I don't recommend it, even though I've heard it described as a classic and a must-have Essie. Definitely not worth the hassle.

What do you think of these Essies? Which shade would you opt for? Do you have any awesome reds to recommend?

  1. The red is gorgeous, the nude looks nice on you, but nudes aren't really good one me :)

    1. Haha, the nude shade is actually being worn by my mom- but I'll definitely pass the compliment on. ;) What don't you like about wearing nude tones on yourself?

  2. Wow that red is gorgeous!!! I love keeping my nails short, I think they look better that way lol

I find alot of Essie milky colors are hard to apply, they all turn out to be streaky messes for me too. I have marshmallow and it was horrible to wear alone...I thought it was just me...

    1. I had the same trouble with trying to wear Marshmallow alone! So hard to find non-streaky sheers. I always end up having to do about 4 coats to achieve something non-streaky.

    1. Thanks! Do you have any tips to help with application? Maybe I'm doing something wrong...

  4. Gorgeous red! Essie is often very streaky but I have a suggestion: use Ballet Slippers in a jelly sandwich! That should be fun and it probably wont be too streaky with glitter sandwiched inbetween layers!

    1. I hadn't thought of using Ballet Slippers for a jelly sandwich- good idea! I've just been using Essie Marshmallow, but I think Ballet Slippers would work just as well and maybe better. Can't wait to try it!
